I wish I could attend this conference sometime, as a novelist who has written two books about Japan and the Japanese, though I haven&#039;t lived there for many years. Interesting to hear Peter Mallet&#039;s opinion (and yours!) on &quot;Lost in Translation.&quot; I guess I agree more with David Peace, but in the case of the film, it&#039;s not really about Japan much at all. It&#039;s simply the backdrop and the story is told from the viewpoint of two characters who have no interest in Japan and really don&#039;t care to be there. And it&#039;s an honest portrayal of that. I found it spot-on and felt it deserved its Oscar for best original screenplay. I guess we can agree to disagree. :-)]]></description>
